You're at a checkpoint. The officer asks for documents. You open the glovebox and... chaos. Old receipts. Expired insurance. Random napkins.
We've all been there.
Here's the simple system to fix it forever.
π― The Golden Rule
Glovebox: Only what the law demands
At home: Everything else
That's it.
π§Ύ IN YOUR GLOVEBOX (Always)
1. Original RC β Your car's identity proof. Must be original.
2. Valid Insurance Paper β Check expiry date. Expired = fine.
3. Valid PUC Certificate β Usually valid 6 months. Check before long trips.
4. Driving Licence β Physical or DigiLocker. Not expired.
5. Emergency Contact Card β Your name, blood group, emergency number, insurance helpline. Tape inside glovebox lid.
That's it. Five items. One folder.
π AT HOME (The Master File)
Keep these in a waterproof folder:
Original purchase invoice
Loan documents (if financed)
Autopit Service history (all bills in date order)
Autopit Fuel history (all the fuel bills in dizitised)
Service booklet with stamps (GOLD for resale)
Old insurance policies (for No Claim Bonus proof)
Warranty documents
Owner's manual
π± DIGITAL BACKUP
Scan everything and store in:
DigiLocker (government approved, valid at checkpoints)
Google Drive (folder named "Car Documents")
Email to yourself (always accessible)
Autopit (fast, free, works offline, store all the documents, safe and encrypted)
ποΈ What NOT to Keep in Car
β Original purchase invoice
β Aadhaar, PAN, passport
β Signed blank cheques
β Large cash
β Old expired documents
β Spare house keys
β The 10-Minute Setup

Buy one ring binder for home (βΉ100)
Sort documents into: Glovebox pile vs Home pile
Scan everything for digital backup
Tape emergency card inside glovebox lid
Done. Next police check? 30 seconds, no stress.
π‘ Quick Tip
